Over the past decade, some of the world's largest technology companies have poured billions of dollars into healthcare.

Apple continues expanding its health ecosystem through the Apple Watch and Health app. Amazon has invested heavily in pharmacy, primary care, and AI-driven health services. Google is developing AI models that assist clinicians and accelerate medical research. Microsoft has embedded AI across clinical workflows, while OpenAI is partnering with healthcare organizations to improve how care teams access and use information.

Look closely at that list and a pattern emerges. None of these companies is trying to sell hospitals a better scheduling tool or a faster billing system. They're all, in different ways, trying to own the space around the appointment, the parts of a patient's health journey that no one is currently responsible for.
